for today, except John attended a mandatory meeting sponsored by the Center for Disease Control. The probability for a flu pandemic (Avian) is great, so they want community leaders to know what to expect and prepare for in the event of such an occurrence. Honestly, I thought the threat of the Bird Flu had passed us by years ago, but the scientists stress that the gene is still mutating and could, one day, kill millions of people. Not a sunny scenario. They don't know when this will occur; could be years or could be decades, but it will happen. Although, nobody knows for certain to what extent.
After looking over some of the literature, I read that everyone should keep a well-stocked pantry, just like you would for an approaching winter storm, with enough food and water to last your family for a few weeks. Guess who isn't prepared? I cleaned out the pantry today and will start stocking up. Although, I just can't imagine anything like this happening in the United States today. Maybe in third world countries, but we'll be alright...Right?
