The Bone Rattler & A Dead Microwave

On one of the most humid days of the year, our air conditioner decided to throw a tantrum. I don't know what happened exactly, but according to John, the fan inside of the air conditioner threw itself off balance. After that gem of an answer, I asked to see his electrician's license and he rolled his eyes at me and walked off. (We still love each other, we're just grouchy because it's hot.) Anyway, the air conditioner works, albeit not nearly as well. Plus there is a carnival fun-house style of shaking if you get within 20 feet of the thing. Hence, it's new nickname "The Bone Rattler". Honestly, neither one of us knows if it's safe to use or not, but since we don't want to spend the day in a sauna, our solution is to turn it off if we smell smoke. It should only have to last us through today and maybe tomorrow and then we can retire it out into the shed. How thoughtful that it waited until the tail-end of Summer to give up the ghost.

Not to be outdone, the microwave decided to upstage the air conditioner and quit working altogether. Wanting to warm-up some split pea soup, I pushed the start button and nothing happened, so I pushed the start button again. When that didn't work, I started pushing buttons at random--still nothing. Tomorrow we'll put in a request for a new one from the church and 6 meetings and 3 weeks later, we will have ourselves a brand-new microwave oven! We did have trouble a few months ago with it, but ever since then, it's been so well-behaved. Not a good day for appliances here in the Miller household.

So, if anyone wants to come over for some shakin' and cold soup, you are more than welcome to do so!
