Painted Black

We're moving in 4 days. I haven't yet finished packing or cleaning, but felt I needed more of a challenge because I wasn't quite busy enough. I decided that 96 hours before the moving van starts loading-up all of our belongings was the absolutely perfect time to paint our pie safe black. John and I bought it unfinished 18 years ago so, in my defense, the job was long overdue.

The photo glared out the punched tin panels and the paint color is blacker than it appears (cannon ball black, so says the paint can label).

The finished product is actually courtesy of John.

I tried, I really did. (Honest) Nothing seemed to be going well for me, so my darling husband dropped what he was doing to finish the task.

Never under-estimate the power of tears.

Here is the reason...

why I go through so many paper towels in the kitchen...

and why all of my hand towels are nibbled on the corners...

The Progressive Girl Loves Doc Holliday

John has eyes for another woman.

Every time he catches a glimpse of her, he stops to stare with mouth agape and eyes glazed over.

Flo the Progressive Girl has stolen my husband's heart.

I admit to daydreaming from time-to-time. For a few stolen moments, I am in the Old West, sitting at a poker table between Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Our conversation is peppered with not-fit-for-church language and salty double-entendres:

Those are mighty big guns you have there, boys!

After I'm cheated out of all my money, Wyatt buys me an ice cream cone. (Doc has ice cream too, only his is poured into a glass from a bottle labeled "whiskey"). Together we three promenade across rickety wooden sidewalks when suddenly, I am stopped in my tracks by a handsome man with kind blue eyes and a sweet crooked smile.

The new minister is in town.

Misters Holliday and Earp fade back into the past while the padre and I stroll cozily along under a star-lit velvet sky.

The point is this: even in dreams my heart always finds it's way back to my one and only, my only one.

So, yes, I admit I am a little jealous of Progressive Girl. She with the overly bright-red lips and cute, flippy 'do. She with the ability to capture John's attention.

I finally couldn't take it anymore and asked him Why? What do you see in Flo the Progressive Girl?

The minister with kind blue eyes and a sweet crooked smile answered: Because she has a goofy sense of humor. Just like you.

My husband found his way back to me, even in his dreams.

Flo is kinda cute. In a goofy sorta way.

Union City

John will be serving the New Ireland and Lake Pleasant churches in Union City. The people were very welcoming and nice to us; it's going to be an absolute pleasure living there.

Union City is a small farming town and we both were impressed by how clean everything is. Knox Dale is pretty too, but there is always lots of litter on the side of the roads here. John can't wait to go fishing out on Lake Pleasant; it's beautiful. Edinboro is very close, so maybe I can finally finish my Master's degree. Titusville is also fairly close, so there are familiar places for us to go.

The parsonage is sweet...but about half the size of the K.D. parsonage. Actually, everything has just been newly remodeled because there was a fire in November which caused a lot of damage. My favorite room is the kitchen-big and bright.

The lawn is 2 acres (and I was worried Ben wouldn't have a place to run!) with a little stream running through it....so cute! Our new neighbors have horses and I'll be able to watch them through our kitchen window. Sorry for no pics, but I just wasn't bold enough to start snapping photos when it is not yet my home. We'll be moving the week of June 24th, so I'll be sure to post lots of photos then.

Sorry my writing is so disjointed, but I'm tired and still a little stressed over moving. I'm also a little worried about how I'm going to fit all of my furniture into that cute little gingerbread house, but I'm sure it will all work itself out.

Braddock is 2 hours and 37 minutes away from our new place taking 79N (according to MapQuest). That isn't too much longer, right? You all might want to come up before Christmas though since we are living directly in the snow belt. We were told tonight that last winter they had almost 200 inches of snow! Come up during the warmer months, so we can use that big yard and the kids can run around.

Myesha, thank you so much for the beautiful gift. You are such a thoughtful and caring person. That will be the very first thing I set out at the new place. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Love you.

Coconut has taken a serious liking to a little white cat who lives just outside of the kitchen window. He jumps up on the counter to see him every night. Turns out they have a lot in common.

The Latest

It looks like we're definitely moving this year.

Last Thursday night, I had just stepped out of the shower when John knocked on the door to tell me that the District Superintendent was bringing the new minister and his wife over to look at the parsonage....in 5 minutes! I grabbed my clothes back out of the hamper, threw them on and then ran through the house like a maniac to do a quick pick-up.

Everything worked out well; they seem like great people and I hope they'll be happy here. It's just now I don't feel like this is my home anymore and I'm knocked completely off-center. We already started to pack for the move next month, so the boxes all over the house just add to the chaotic and twirly feeling.

Our new churches, two instead of three, will be in Erie County. I don't know exactly where yet. The D.S. will be taking John and I for the meet & greet with the new congregations on Tuesday night. We'll also be able to tour the parsonage then. I hope it's pretty. I'll tell you all about it on Wednesday.

Myesha, thank you so much for the photo of the boys; they're beautiful! Funny though, I always thought that Brody's eyes were green, but they're as blue as Joseph's.

A New (Old) Bookcase

John and I went to the drugstore to pick up some prescriptions and saw this bookcase. Retired as a display case for candles and picture frames, now newly employed in our home to keep safe our treasured volumes.

Coconut inspects the newest member of the family....

Chipped and peeling paint, a little worse-for-wear, you still stand proud and tall.
Welcome Home

Please....

Just one little bite?

From Feikee, With Love

Lookie!, Lookie!
We got gifts all the way from Malaysia!!

  • a basket with netting to protect your food from bugs
  • a cat clutch purse
  • a really neat mirror
  • a magnet in the shape of the type of shoe that Malaysians wore in the old times
  • peanut puffs candy (they taste similar to Zagnut, but more of a peanutty flavor)
  • a bag of fried dough twists. We love them! Almost like the fried dough you get at a carnival, but crispier.
  • lots of postcards!! John was so impressed by the one of the man playing the nose flute, that he researched it. The music played on the flute is sacred, so the musicians use their nose because lies and deceit come out of the mouth which would taint the music.

Thank you so much Feikee for being so sweet and thinking of us!! We love everything and will treasure it. We hope you had a wonderful time visiting your family, but everyone is so happy to have you and the boys back here!! We love you. Not just because of the gifts, but because you're you.
